1986 - Expo 86

British Columbia hosts Expo 86 — the World’s Fair — setting the stage for Vancouver’s transition from a small provincial city to a global tourism destination. The fair hosted 22 million guests and boosted the Canadian economy by $3.7 billion.

Engineers played a central role in the legacy projects associated with Expo 86, including the Skytrain, Science World, BC Place Stadium, Canada Place, and the Plaza of Nations. These projects delivered substantial contributions to public infrastructure and overall livability, and created a lasting legacy for the city that continues today.
