The association establishes the Women in Engineering and Geoscience Task Force to identify causes of gender imbalance in the professions, and to make recommendations for how these issues could be addressed effectively by the association. The Task Force presents a final report including 18 recommendations.
A year later, the association signs on to Engineers Canada’s 30 by 30 initiative: a goal to raise the percentage of newly-licensed engineers who are female to 30% by 2030. Almost all of the Task Force’s recommendations advance as part of this initiative, as well as new initiatives that support STEM education, and partnerships with industry that drive recruitment and retention of women in the engineering and technology professions.
Currently, 21% of newly-licensed members are female.
