1979 - Workplace Discrimination

Despite facing opposition and discrimination in the engineering industry, by the late 1970s women began making more significant in-roads into the profession.

This helped by legislation passed by the NDP government which prohibited workplace discrimination, opening up engineering careers to those that had been excluded.

Six women graduated from UBC with civil engineering degrees in 1979.
